• Internationaler Anlass. 16 Läufer aus der ganzen Welt (Italien, Schweiz, England, Frankreich, USA, Deutschland)
• Schnee von Beginn bis zum Ende mit Schneesturm im Aufstieg zum Schnebelhorn.
• Hüfttiefer Schnee ab 1100m Höhe. Ab Hulftegg wären Schneeschuhe ein Geschenk des Himmes gewesen.
• Alle Läufer beendeten den Lauf zwischen 28 und 50km.
• Nur einer schaffte es über die volle Distanz. Gratulation an Paolo Monticolo in einer Zeit von 9:37h. Das sind fast 90min länger, wie 2011.
• Das Wetter in der Höhe hüllte die Umgebung mit Schnee und Nebel in totales Weiss. Nach 38km hatte sich die Mehrheit der Läufer wieder zu einer Gruppe zusammengefunden, weil die Navigation unter den Wetterbedingungen etwas gelitten hatte! Nach 8 Stunden und 43km Laufen, kurz vor der “unteren Chrüzegg”, fiel der Entscheid, es sei besser zur Strasse abzusteigen und direkt zu Fuss/Bus ans Ziel nach Schmerikon zu folgen. Es standen zu dem Zeitpunkt noch 500 Höhenmeter im knietiefen Schnee bevor und die Orientierung in der Dunkelheit wäre ein zu grosses  Risiko gewesen.
• Wenn die Geschichte von Graf Rudolph II stimmt und er vor 700 Jahren über 13 Stunden für die 54km benötigte, dann muss es Frühling gewesen sein. Wie ist es  sonst zu erklären, dass bestens ausgerüstete, erfahrene Trail-Läufer es in dieser modernen Zeit nicht vor Einbruch der Nacht geschafft hätten? Die beste Erklärung ist wohl, dass Graf Rudolph, obwohl von Angst getrieben, irgendwie auch ein knallharter Typ war.

Die Organisation dankt allen Läufern für soviel Spass, dass sie mit Vorsicht und gut vorbereitet an diesem Abenteuer angetreten sind und durch vernünftige Entscheide alle wohlbehalten im Ziel angekommen sind.

January, 28th, 2012, 08:44am, 0°C, Snowfall. These conditions were attractive enough for 16 people, well equipped to start at the 2nd CRUX (Count Rudolph Ultra eXtreme), a 54km and 2500Hm run. Prior to race day, most of Switzerland was experiencing warmer than normal temperatures with little snow. Ah, but these 16 souls were handed true winter conditions, as they say, be careful what you wish for! The facts:

• International event. 16 runner all over the world (Italy, Switzerland, England, France, USA, Germany).
• Snow from the beginning to the end with snow storm on the climb to Schnebelhorn.
• Hip deep snow above 3500ft. After Hulftegg snow shoes would have been a godsend.
• Runners finished between 28 and 54k.
• Only one runner finished the entire distance. Congratulation to Paolo Monticolo in a time of 9:37h. That is almost 90min longer than 2011.
• The weather on top produced almost whiteout conditions. After around 38K most of the runners regrouped as there was some interesting navigation going on up there! After 8 hours and 43K just below the “untere Chrüzegg” the group decided it was best to head down to the nearest road and finish by foot/bus directly to Schmerikon. There was still 500m of climbing in knee deep snow and nightfall would have made navigating perilous at best.
• If the story about Count Rudolph II is true and 700 years ago he needed more than 13 hours for the entire 50K then it must have been spring! Otherwise, how else can we explain how well equipped, experienced trail runners of these modern times not completing this before nightfall? Perhaps the best explanation is that Count Rudolph, despite the fear of the flying object, he also was a badass!
